The Ladies' Sub-Committee was officially formed in 1990 as a roving team, assisting in the coordination of activities and helping newly formed IAECs. Over the years, the Sub-Committee has found a niche for itself in organising wholesome quality programmes. Its main functions are to strengthen family bonding and raise the awareness of social issues affecting the Indian families, particularly the women.
The sub-committee has also been promoting entrepreneurship amongst Indian women, for example, it organised a forum in 2007 (the first Breaking Barrier event). It has also participated in the “Entrepreneur in You” carnival organized by Narpani Pearavai in 2008. In partnership with the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Women’s Indian Network) it has organised two follow-up Breaking Barriers forums in 2010 and 2011, highlighting prominent and budding Indian women who have excelled in business.
