Aarokkia Aattam is the first ever Indian aerobics workout specially created for Indian women above the age of 30.
People's Association Narpani Pearavai in collaboration with Health Promotion Board, embarked on this health promoting exercise targeting specifically the heartlanders.
A VCD with the relevant exercise moves was launched on the 20th November 2005 by the late Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Information, Communications and the Arts during the Vasantha Oli 2005 carnival.
Aarokkia Attam is a low impact aerobics exercise, choreographed to accommodate even those who are new to any form of physical exercise. This low impact aerobics can be done within the comfort of one's home. One does not need any special requirement such as sports wear or sports shoes for “Aarokkia Aattam”. This exercise has been designed for ladies who wear comfortable ethnic clothes such as Saris, Punjabi Suits, Sarongs or anything that is easy to work out in.
The VCD is sold at a subsidized price of $3.00 each. The workout consists of a warm-up of 5 minutes, a 25-minute workout for beginners, a 25-minute segment of higher intensity workout and finally 5-minute cool down. In addition, the VCD contains a step-by-step guide explaining the various postures and positions in Aarokkia Aattam in Tamil and English.
The AA interest group is growing with its set of trainers, who conduct classes at various CCs. It also promotes AA through demonstrations at events. For further information, please email us at
