History
The first Indian Cultural Group (ICG) was formed in 1977 at the Kallang Community Centre (CC), under the auspices of the People's Association (PA). Its main task was to organize and promote Indian cultural activities. The cultural events proved popular and encouraged the formation of the similar groups at other CCs.

Function
1) To guide IAECs in engaging the community through a wide range of outreach programmes
2) To assist IAECs and other grassroots organisations (GROs) to identify and recruit suitable Indian grassroots leaders
3) To facilitate collaborations between IAECs and other GROs and the larger community.

Strategic Directions
1) To guide and encourage IAECs to organize more inclusive activities to promote inter-ethnic understanding.
2) To enhance the communication and understanding between Narpani Pearavai and IAECs through joint projects, dialogue sessions, workshops and community programmes.
